Thank you all for taking time out of your busy schedules to read my blog. I am loving the messages on LinkedIn!
Its been a bit of weird week for me, I probably did not get as much studying done as I wish I could but it doesn’t always go to plan I guess.
What have I done in the last week?
Overall I would say over the week I got about 10 hours of studying done. I usually aim for 15 hours minimum but we had family over on the weekend. It has been a while since I haven’t done any studying over the weekend. I guess that break was needed to refresh myself plus what is better than spending time with your loved ones?!
During the week day I did go over the 1st section again. I did that section before eJPT so it was just a refresher really to remind myself. I didn’t feel like dumping my brain with information straight away as I know I will be going over all the modules at least once more. (Buffer over flow maybe even 3/4 times lol)
I also covered one new module from the second section. I did pay a lot more attention to this module as it was the first time I was covering it and it was packed with valuable information! Information gathering is very important, we definitely can not overlook this as this is the foundation for us to build on.
A fair bit of it I was familiar with and most of you will also be if you have done CEH. It is very well divided in to sections – passive and active. I loved the part of what tools can be used to record information in such a way that can help you visualise all the information easier – MIND MAPPING.
Personally I have never come across mind mapping before but I do feel like I should have looked in to it. Anyway, I guess that’s what the course is about. Its here to teach you about techniques and tools that will help you with gathering all the information and to help you present them in a professional way. I haven’t done the lab for it yet, but I am really looking forward to it and possibly will do it tonight.
What has eJPT done for me so far?
I wanted to add this little section in to today’s blog. It is still early days so far and has only been over a week since I have passed my eJPT. I am really happy to admit that since I have passed the exam I have had a fair bit of recognition from recruiters and companies who are looking to hire. Nothing has been confirmed and even if it doesn’t, I wont be upset as it is a learning curve! I have had a few phone interviews and a few online assessments, so it is looking promising. It is encouraging to know that I am heading in the right direction. Also, I am really happy for eLS who I feel is really gaining attention now in the industry as a well recognised body with great learning material and certs! So congratulations to them 🙂
As someone with no past experience in IT, this really shows that with hard work and dedication it is possible to land the job you want. I am far from where I want to be but I believe a junior role where I can shadow experienced pentesters will be really great for my development from here on forward. Anyway I will keep you all posted if anything comes from the interviews and tests!
Ok its back to business this week! I have been a little distracted but I don’t want to become complacent. The target for this week is to complete the second section with the labs by the end of the weekend. I do miss the HeraLabs and I cant wait to get more practical experience with what I expect to be more challenging labs. In next week’s blog I may also do a small section on the difference you can expect from eJPT’s training material vs eCPPT’s training material.
That’s all for this week. I hope you all have a great week 🙂 Good luck with studying, exams or interviews!
